We've spoken before about the benefits of scarifying your lawn. As the snow melts and Spring comes around again there's no better time to think about getting your lawn in order for summer. Scarifying works by pulling the thatch and moss from your lawn allowing more air and water to reach your grass. This means your grass will grow quicker and be healthier. As a rule, you should wait until the grass is at least three years old before scarifying.

If you're interested in scarifying your lawn we have a machine available to Hire or you can buy your own Viking LB 540 in our Viking Clearance Sale!

Once your lawn has been brought back to its best thanks to your scarifying and fertilising you'll notice it's growing much faster. A quality lawn mower is an essential piece of garden machinery. At Fraser C. Robb, we always try to guide our customers toward the best machine for your needs. Whether this is electric, cordless or petrol; walk-behind or ride-on we have a machine for every need.

When buying a lawn mower there are a lot of factors to consider:

Cutting Width - Small mowers typically offer lower weight and increased maneuverability but will take longer to cut your grass. Large mowers can reduce cutting time but introduce more weight (especially on machines with a roller)
Drive - If you can't or don't want to push your lawn mower you'll love a mower with drive. Standard on all Honda engined Mountfields and many STIHL mowers
Rear Roller - If you want stripes on your lawn, there's nothing better than a rear roller. You'll get quality stripes from any Hayter, Allett or Mountfield Machine
Collection, Mulching or Side-Discharge - Whether you want to collect your grass cuttings, mulch them back into the lawn or discharge them to deal with later there are a huge number of options in both the ride-on and walk-behind categories.

With the lawn healthy and mown it's time to turn our attention to the soil. As STIHL say, the basis for all growth is found in healthy soil. Rotovators make short work of clumpy soil, turning your messy flowerbeds and vegetable patches into smooth, useable soil ideal for planting. The STIHL MH 445 is suitable for both domestic and landscaping work. It's reasonably priced, easy to clean and exceptionally powerful. What's more, if you don't need to buy one we have a rotovator available for hire.

Whether you're pruning trees, cutting firewood or carrying out general maintenance a chainsaw is an essential piece in the homeowner's toolkit. The MS 181 is an ideal saw for most domestic users. This chainsaw can be fitted with a 14 or 16 inch bar it offers great power, performance and build quality in a lightweight package.

If your needs are more demanding, a member of our sales team will be happy to advise you on which saw can best suit your needs.

The machines in this post are just a handful of the options available to you. For a more complete insight and purchase guidance feel free to visit, call or email us and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
